Durham housing market doing well because of townhouses PDF Print
Latest News

DURHAM -- The Greater Oshawa area is seeing more houses being built, but the increase is not because of detached homes.

Townhouses are the reason for the boost in the market this June.

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) released new home construction figures for the month of June for the Oshawa Census Metropolitan Area, which includes Oshawa, Whitby and Clarington.

"The prolonged growth of housing prices has eventually affected housing affordability in the area" said CMHC market analyst Inna Breidburg. "Even in the community like Oshawa, where single-detached have been a dominant housing choice, we see a shift in demand towards more affordable housing types like townhomes."
